| Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) | ||||||||
| 1. WHY IS THIS GROUP FOR WOMEN ONLY? It creates a network, a support system where women can workout in the company of other like-minded females. 2. WHY IS THE AGE SPECIFIC TO 25 AND OLDER? As we approach our 30s or are in our 30s and beyond, our metabolism slows down, we have competing priorities and are more prone to sedentary lifestyles. 3. WHY IS THIS GROUP ONLY FOR BLACK PEOPLE? Because obesity and inactivity, risk factors for several health conditions, are prevalent in our community. Additionally, similar fitness groups seldom have a good representation of people of color. With FGBW, you you will be amongst others who understand that culture plays a significant role in how we eat, what we eat and how we view exercise. Additionally, FGBW is a founding ground for members to meet workout partners, warm up to the idea of working out regularly so that we can team up with other groups (i.e. our Latina, Caucasian, Asian, other sisters) in other fitness activities (e.g. full- and half-marathons, 5K, 10K events, etc). 4. WHAT IF I WANT TO BRING MY BOYFRIEND, HUSBAND OR OTHER MALE FRIEND? Members are asked to participate in the weekly workouts with other members. We have designated Thursdays as co-ed/family workout days where members are free to bring guests (friends, family members, significant others) to the workouts. Members are also free to and encouraged to bring guests to the health walks, volunteer opportunities and guest optional meet-n-greet sessions. Please note that we welcome guests of all races. 5. I WANT TO WORK OUT ON A WEEKLY BASIS BUT I CAN ONLY MAKE CERTAIN DAYS. It is understood that not everyone can make it to all events. We want you to work out so come when you can, provided that you work out a minimum of one time per month. 6. CAN WE WORK OUT ON DAYS OTHER THAN THE ONES SCHEDULED ON THE CALENDAR? Members are free to seek workout partners in the group. However, the schedule for the weekly workouts is set. As the group grows and the needs of the members require other days we can assess/evaluate the workout days. 7. DO I HAVE TO ATTEND ALL THE HEALTH WALKS? Members are under no obligation to attend all the scheduled health walks. However, we encourage members attend at least one health walk per year. 8. CAN I STILL ATTEND THE HEALTH WALKS IF I DON'T GET AROUND TO RAISING SOME MONEY? Yes. Unless the event lists a minimum fundraising goal, all you have to do is pay the registration fee (if applicable) and attend the event. Show up and show your support for the cause. 9. I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN MAKE IT TO THE WEEKLY WORKOUTS BUT I PLAN ON PARTICIPATING IN THE HEALTH WALKS. It is understood that people may have conflicting schedules which may prevent them from working out on a regular basis. However, to maintain the mission of the group and to keep moving, members are asked to participate in at least one weekly workout per month. 10. ARE THE LOCATIONS FOR THE WEEKLY WORKOUTS SET? CAN I RECOMMEND A LOCATION? At this point, the locations are set. Recommendations will be taken and considered for future workouts. |
